What Age Can You Take CBD in the United Kingdom?

With increasing popularity of CBD, the latest UK laws of 2020 have led to many questions. There is a lot of grey areas with the use and administration of CBD, with many also wondering at what age can you take CBD legally.

We do know that hemp-derived CBD is completely legal and safe to use, as recognised by medical research, along with the therapeutic effects of CBD on the body. However, what isn’t as clear is whether there is a CBD age restriction.

So, what age can you take CBD? Will you get in trouble if you’re under 18 or if you are a parent and give it to your children?

The Current UK Laws About CBD Use

Many associate cannabis use with the illegal highs, crime, and substance misuse. However, CBD is different. Notably it does not cause psychotic highs and can be used safely to promote your health. There are often conditions that need to be met to determine whether CBD is legal. If a CBD product it contains less than 0.2% of THC, CBD is now legal in many countries, including the UK. Anything over that amount is illegal and considered a class B drug regarding the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

In other words, if the product is produced from industrial hemp, which is naturally lower in THC, the product will contain little to no THC. Therefore, even if it has some THC, the CBD oil or CBD-related product cannot make you high.

Is Cannabis Oil Different?

Often, “cannabis oil” and “CBD oil” are terms used interchangeably to describe the same thing. Under the provision of new UK laws, CBD is a legal cannabinoid. So, even if you see something labelled as cannabis oil, it will only contain the legal amount of THC and CBD.

CBD Age Restrictions: At What Age Can You Take CBD?

Considering what age can you take CBD; many individuals have questions surrounding this. With research that has investigated the therapeutic effects of CBD, there’s been plenty of evidence to suggest safe use on children with conditions like epilepsy, between ages 15-18.

Since there are no noted CBD age restrictions within the current UK laws, a lot is left up to interpretation. Here is what we know:

  • There is no need for a prescription to buy CBD products in the UK.
  • There is no set CBD age restriction imposed by the government.
  • There is no age limit for CBD use

Can Parents Give CBD to Their Kids?

Given there is no CBD age restrictions, parents in the UK can purchase CBD for their children and face no consequences. Some products may set their own limitations in advised methods of use, but most CBD products will not have an age restriction.

The only possible consideration when giving CBD to children is the dosage. The optimal dosage for a full-grown adult will likely be higher than what is needed for smaller children. So it’s best to start small and work your way up if you think it’s necessary.

As is the case with yourself, researching and using the most reputable CBD brands which boast high quality is the best way to ensure your CBD is safe and regulated, whatever age you are. A CBD supplier should be able to present you with a certificate of analysis from a third-party testing lab, or better yet, they may even provide the information freely on their website.
